Kerdos: College & 20s

Welcome to the website for kerdos, the College & 20s group of Grace Church. Kerdos is the Greek word for gain in Philippians 1:21, “for to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.” The only reason the apostle Paul or any of us could make this kind of statement is because of the gospel, the good news that Jesus lived the faithful life we could not live, died the guilty death we deserve to die, and was raised from the dead to restore us to himself. Paul abandoned his daily pursuit of gaining the approval of God and others through personal resume building and instead continually rested and rejoiced in knowing Christ and enjoying the righteousness that he gives us through faith (Phil 3:7-9). By God’s grace, we want that to be true of us as well.

In light of this, the three things that we want to be at the heart of our lives in the College & 20s ministry are the gospel, community, and mission.  Gospel, because we want to keep admitting that we are still far more sinful than we are aware, and yet at the same time we can rejoice that we’re still completely loved and accepted in Christ.  Community, because by God’s grace we’re all part of the Grace Church family, called to love and serve each other as we’ve been loved and served by Christ. And Mission, because we want the joy of seeing God’s glory in Christ spread broader and deeper in our neighborhoods, workplaces, and campuses.

MP3s are available if you missed the teaching on Sunday morning, would like to hear it again, or want to pass it along to others.

Sunday Mornings:

The best way to get acquainted with us is to come on a Sunday morning and join us at 9am in the basement of Grace Church’s building (located at 27W344 Galusha Ave, Warrenville, IL). We pray, sing, talk, eat, and are reminded afresh of the gospel through biblical teaching.

Discipleship Groups:

Since the Christian life isn’t meant to be lived alone, we want to flee our individualistic tendencies and seek to share life and encourage one another to continue treasuring Christ above all things.  One of the primary ways in which we do this is through discipleship groups, where we share life with friends, talk about God’s word, rest in the gospel together, and pray for one another. If you would like to be a part of one, let us know on Sunday or contact Dan at DanPMontgomery[at]gmail[dot]com.

Various Gatherings and Retreats:

While most of the gatherings and activities that we do within the group spring up out of the discipleship groups, we also spend time together as a larger group outside of our Sunday morning meeting.  Once or twice each month we head over to someone’s home for a lunch after the Sunday service.  We also leave town for retreats a couple times each year. These are great ways to meet new people, enjoy our friendships, and encourage one another in the faith.
