Letter
from the Heidorns
The Heidorns
live in Gatab, Kenya a village of about 5,000 Samboro people located on Mt. Kulal in
Northern Kenya. Gatab is a two day drive from Nairobi where
they regularly return to purchase a 2-3 month supply of food, fuel, &
building materials. They are originally from Wheaton,
Illinois where they became members of Grace Church of DuPage.
They began to serve in several ministries and there the Lord began
to place a call on their lives for foreign missions. They
entered into a one year training for remote missions in 1999 at
The Master's Mission (TMM) in Robbinsville, NC.
In Gatab,
Jeff serves as an elder in the local African Inland Church. The
church is attended by about 100 and was established about 30
years ago. The church is pastored by a Samburu pastor, Job
Learmo who desires that Biblical teaching be given priority over cultural traditions. Jeff
is active in teaching and shepherding the church. He is also managing Haven Home, a children's
home for about 55 kids from outlying areas who otherwise would not be able
to attend school. Haven Home provides a shelter for these
young people from many of the immoral and destructive tribal
practices. During their time at Haven Home these children are taught daily
from the Word of God as well as lead by Jeff and Peg in Christian
leadership and example. Peg assists with responsibilities at
Haven Home, is involved in a weekly ladies Bible Study, and helps with
children's ministries at the church. |
