Love between a husband and a wife is described in
the Song of Solomon with great intensity and passion:
"Love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the
grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very
flame of the Lord. Many waters cannot quench love,
neither can floods drown it. If a man offered for
love all the wealth of his house, he would be utterly
despised" (8:6b-7). Does this describe your
relationship with your spouse? You may first
respond with laughter, thinking that your marriage could
never be described in these terms. Yet, we must be
reminded that these words do not come from a novel or
from a script of a romance movie, but these words are
from the very Word of God and they describe a
relationship between a man and a woman who both deeply
love God and one another. To say that this
description is impossible for your marriage is to deny
the power of God and the effectiveness of His Word.
This is what this couple's retreat is all about.
It is about taking the Word of God and applying it to
our marriages with the pursuit of this description of
love becoming a description of the love relationship in
our marriages. So, please make this weekend a
priority. Pastor Daryle Worley has written his
doctoral thesis on the subject of marriage and is well
equipped to take us into the depths of God's Word and
apply it practically to our marriages. We are
trusting God for a weekend that will serve each of the
couples in a lasting way.
